What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the speciality of dentistry dedicated to correcting and preventing problems in jaw development and tooth position.

What are the benefits?
Orthodontic treatment allows us to obtain numerous benefits, namely:
-
Aesthetic benefits for the face and smile, with a consequent increase in self-esteem and confidence when smiling;
-
The correct alignment of the teeth allows for better oral hygiene, reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum problems;
-
By achieving a better "fit" between the upper and lower teeth, our teeth are better protected from aggressive and uneven chewing forces and thus stay healthy for longer.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Each case is different. There are simple, medium and complex cases. Generally speaking, on average, treatment requires 24 monthly appointments. Of course, simpler cases can be finished much sooner and more complex cases can take longer to correct. The duration of treatment is also very dependent on the patient's cooperation, because whenever parts are detached, treatment is delayed, when it is indicated to use elastics between the two jaws and the patient does not use these devices, treatment is also seriously delayed, and it is also essential to attend monthly maintenance appointments.
Do orthodontic braces cause pain?
After the appointment to have the braces fitted, there may be some discomfort in the first week, which will depends on the initial position of the teeth. The less misaligned they are, the less discomfort.
After the monthly maintenance appointments, you may feel a slight discomfort a few hours later, but it quickly disappears.
